DVD Review

The new Dazed and Confused: Flashback Edition sucks.

I mean, the movie is good and the transfer onto the DVD looks great, but for a double-dip “special edition” it has NO bonus features.

There is no commentary with director Richard Linklater, which was promised when the disc was announced. The only bonus features are nine deleted scenes, which are ok…not great, a goofy anti-marijuana educational clip, and two old public service announcements. The best part of all the bonus features is that old PSA with the crying Indian.

I watched the movie last night, and I enjoyed it just as much if not more than I did the first time I saw it eleven years ago. If I were you though, I would hold out on purchasing this one. I’ve heard talk that Linklater is pushing to have a real special edition done by the folks at The Criterion Collection. Now that is a group that knows how to make great DVDs.
