Never The Same

I just wanted to point out a really cool new feature on the blog.

Over at Jforsythe.com you can create a neat little widget which displays which movies you have at home from Netflix. You can see mine in the sidebar to the right.

Where it would have previously been Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Alias, and Criterion DVDs, I'm betting it's going to be a lot of Baby Einstein and Disney DVDs from here on out.

Freak Like Me

Have you guys seen the new trailer for The Dark Knight? It looks really great. I liked Batman Begins but I didn't love it the way most people did. I need to re-watch it. I haven't seen it since it hit theaters.

In any event, The Dark Knight looks WAY better. I can't wait.

Check it out in hi-res here:

Wes Anderson Day, Apparently

Have you guys seen the trailer for the new Wes Anderson movie The Darjeeling Limited? It looks really cool. Check the trailer in High Def here.

Meanwhile, after the jump check out the short film version of Bottle Rocket that impressed Columbia Pictures enough to give Anderson the budget for a feature length.

A Movie Reviewer After My Heart

The Arizona Star's Phil Villarreal takes bold overstated metaphor to an all new level in his review of "300". Here are a few of my favorite quips:

"The movie "300" is rated R for "RAAAAAR!" and is about as inspirational as "Field of Dreams" multiplied by "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington," plus infinity."

"High school football coaches who show this to their players before games are guaranteed to win 55-0. Should opposing coaches show the DVD to each of their teams before the matchup, a rupture in the space-time continuum will occur and the game will be declared a tie."

"The heroes fight for pride, honor, democracy and the right to leave the toilet seat up."

"The film has a stylized look that matches what would happen if "The Matrix" had hot, dirty sex with "Clash of the Titans.""

"The Spartans are a super-human elite squad of lumberjack pirates who were trained by the the great-great-grandpa of Chuck Norris' paternal ancestor."

Lumberjack pirates....that's just classic.

Blogger Beat Down

Uwe Boll is widely considered in the movie industry as the worst director currently working. His films are always trashed by critics, and usually do poorly at the box office. I can't verify or deny this because I've never seen his movies.

Here is a list of his work: Uwe Boll IMDB

Well, last year he challenged his critics to a boxing match. He said that anyone who had written at least two bad reviews of his movies was invited to go to Vancouver to go 10 rounds with him.

http://www.canada.com/topics/news/oddities/story.html?id=887ba393-0372-4456-a081-ba1cfa01a723&k=45578

The crappy part was that he turned down any challengers that seemed to be actual contenders. He ended up fighting four online critics. That’s right. The big German fought four nerdy internet film critics. Check it out:

How Embarrassing: The 79th Annual Academy Award Nominations

The 79th Annual Academy Award nominations were announced today, and boy am I embarrassed.

Of all the nominees, I have seen only one movie. That one movie was "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan". Shame Luke. Shame.

I think in 2007 my only two resolutions need to be to pass the CPA exam and to get back to watching movies again. I kicked ass at watching movies in 2004, then had a rapid decline in 2005. 2006 was abominable. Here's hoping 2007 will be better.

New Find

It seems I'm constantly searching the internet for specific movie quotes. What I usually do is run a Google search for the script for that movie. This produces mixed results. Most of the time I can find what I need, but sometimes not.

As I was writing that last post, I wanted to use the quote I used and couldn't recall the precise wording (anyone recognize the quote?). In my search for it I came across The Internet Movie Script Database (new link added to right sidebar).

This is a very cool resource if you're into quotes.

David Lynch and A Cow

I'm pretty sure David Lynch is going to go down in history as one of the top five (probably top two) strangest people to ever work in Hollywood.

This is Lynch's way of promoting his new film Inland Empire and actress Laura Dern for Oscar consideration. Lynch, a poster, and a cow. WTF!

ETA: I am so intrigued by this movie. Every. Single. Review. I have read has used the word horrifying or some variation of same.
