Lost in Tax Season

Well, how are you guys? I almost completely forgot about old useless and pointless knowledge (kidding). Tax season has kept me pretty busy. These days I only think about two things for the most part, taxes and Lost. I won't bore you to tears with tax talk, but I will bore you with Lost talk. Plus, I thought it couldn't hurt to drop a line to let everyone know I'm still here and haven't given up on blogging.

If you do not watch Lost, you might want to skip reading the rest of this post. Also, if you do watch Lost but have not seen last night's episode, you might not want to read any further.

So did my Lost fan readers catch last night's Lost episode "Lockdown"? Pretty crazy stuff. I loved it. One of the most interesting episodes this season. Well, at one point in the episode, John Locke was trapped under the blast doors in the hatch and some crazy black lights came on, revealing what appeared to be either an intricate diagram of some sort, or a map...or both. There were little tiny things written all over it. In most shows, this may be kind of a throw away because everything is written so small that no one could ever read it. The producers of Lost however have come to know that there are enough die-hard fans out there that the frame will be frozen and analyzed ad nauseum online. Here is the work of some of those die hard fans.

Click on the images to go over to Flickr where I am hosting them. There you can view larger versions, allowing you to read some of what's written on the diagrams. It's mostly Latin phrases, math equations, and facts about the island that Lost takes place on. Pretty interesting.

Finally I would like to emphasize that I had NOTHING to do with the creation of these images. They belong to their respective creators, who can be found by visiting the provided web addresses.

The Hatch Online Forums
This one comes from the website http://forums.thehatchonline.com. Someone did a great job on this.

Sledeweb's Map
This one was created by Sledgeweb over http://lost.cubit.net. This guy is awesome about posting extensive Lost research almost immediately after an episode airs. Check his site out if you're interested.

EW Map
This one was posted in a popular film and TV magazine. The name was intentionally removed from the original image, so I won't name it here either.

Sier's map
This image was created by a user called Sier over at Thefuselage.com. This is some impressive photoshop work. It's amazing what some people can do in that program.

Here is a list of all of the Latin phrases seen on the diagram and their translations:

Hic Sunt Dracones "“Here are the dragons"

Credo nos in fluctu eodem esse
"“I think we'’re on the same wavelength"

Sursum Corda "“Lift up your hearts (to God)"

Malum consilium quod mutari non potest "“It'’s a bad plan that can'’t be changed."

Aegrescit Medendo "“The treatment is worse than the disease"

Ut sit magna, tamen certe lenta ira deorum est
“"The wrath of the gods may be great, but it is certainly slow."

Liberate te ex inferis "“Save yourself from hell"

Nil actum reputa si quid superest agendum "“Don't consider that anything has been done if anything is left to be done."

Mus uni non fidit antro
"A mouse does not rely on just one hole."
