Family Matters

My little brother whom I love dearly is four years my junior. He is a great kid (a 20 year old kid, listen to me!) who is serving in the Army for the time being.

While in high school, he was a really good football player despite the fact that he was a little smaller than your average 5A high school middle linebacker. Anyway, needless to say he had a way with he ladies, but I only remember him only having one steady girlfriend for the most part. When it came to pass as these things tend to do, the break-up was not necessarily pleasant.

Last night, I was driving home from Lafayette, La (the town I'm from) and along the way I had to stop at a gas station in Gonzales, La to use the restroom and buy a bottle of water. After using the restroom, I was standing in the aisle with all of the gum and candy bars, looking for a good pack of gum. Out of the corner of my eye, I happened to notice that my brother's ex was standing near me, looking at the sodas in the drink cooler.

I'm really not the kind of guy who is ever rude, but most of the time I just don't really want to talk to people. I don't know why. I just generally prefer to avoid trivial and uncomfortable conversations with anyone that I run into in gas stations and restaurants. I guess it's just small talk. I'm no good at small talk.

Long story short, I tried my damnedest to avoid eye-contact and, as my little sister would say, "I ignored her so hard it was like an art-form." And all uncomfortable conversation was avoided.
